Thankfully, we who work for spinal cord injury recovery are not alone in this struggle.

The list of those who have joined my family and I in this effort is nothing short of astounding. Friends of mine and loved ones, and those of you whom I have never met; friends not just of family, but friends of friends your love has helped fuel and fire my recovery work.

What an incredible exercise in long-term thinking; It has been slightly more than a year now that I have been out of the hospital and it seems I am just out of the starting gate. Though I continue to see progress from my work weekly, the work is arduous and the mental stamina required is a lesson in itself.

To me, the last year of my life seems expensive with costs nearing and exceeding $8000 a month, and yet this covers only the most basic of needs. Personal attendant care, therapy (minimal for recovery) and basic housing requirements seem to add up very quickly. Looking ahead to the coming year, I realize that to really take my recovery seriously I am looking at a budget of at least that much per month. This number is a low ideal that will allow me to purchase additional therapy equipment for my home and to take a committed approach to a variety of complementary therapies outside of the house. (in the near future I will be developing a section of my web site, www.kabirkadre.com, to discuss and review the various therapies that I pursue.)

It is truly with a hope and a prayer that I set out to master this climb. As you may be aware, I have a lawsuit pending due to the circumstances of my accident. Things there look good and better in light of the recent tire recall. (See: Story here) On the same note, I have been told that February of 2005 is the very earliest that I can hope for settlement. In the meantime I am left with fund-raising and income development, two pillars which are mutually required to support my goals.

Working out as I do, not only supports my immediate recovery, but also keeps me in the best possible position to benefit from any of the numerous developments in the pipeline for spinal cord injury recovery. With new centers (friends of mine) and initiatives cropping up around the globe, I am working full-time to keep myself and others aware of this progress. With this in mind, I am continuing to develop what I envision will be the primary point of focus on the Internet for individuals working through the process of spinal cord injury and associated recovery: SCIRecovery.com.

Please consider supporting my recovery work by making a tax-deductible contribution to the Step-By-Step Foundation for SCI Recovery or a simple loan to the trust set up in my name. Your effort is more than appreciated!

Thank you.
